Disney World – Application Timeline

Working at the most magical place on the world would be an amazing experience, right?

Lucky for me, I am getting the opportunity to do this. In August of this year I will be flying to Orlando, Florida to start working at Disney World! The specific program I am participating in is the International Cultural Exchange Program for Australia and New Zealand. If you are thinking of applying, there are some guidelines you must meet and this is what they are;

  • Must be at least 18 to apply
  • Be a citizen of Australia or New Zealand
  • Completed at least one year of study at an accredited post-secondary school or tertiary-level accredited educational/polytechnic institution as a full-time student.
  • Recent graduates who have earned a Bachelor’s Degree can apply, just soloing as they arrive to Disney within 12 of their graduation date.

If you fall into these guidelines, definitely go for it!

I thought, for those of you planning of applying or just applied, I would go through my timeline from application to acceptance. This way you can get an idea of what happens and when during this process.

  • 27 February 2017 – The initial application

My graduation date was the 14th of December and a couple of months later, I sent in my application. The initial application process is pretty simple. You click the ‘apply’ button from the link below and fill out the details. Make sure you update your CV and Cover Letter to be the best it can be and don’t be afraid to talk yourself up, just as long as you don’t lie! Once this is done, just sit back, relax and wait for and email to come through.

  • 28 February 2017 – Invitation for interview

I was surprised to receive an email with an invitation for an interview the next day, much quicker than I thought it would be. Tip: schedule your interview as soon as you get this email, you don’t want to be missing out on the best times! Once you’ve done this, don’t switch off because there is more to do! The first thing you have to do after scheduling your interview is going through the different roles and selecting your interest. The second thing, create an account on DOCS (you will be sent a link to this via email) and complete the steps. It’s pretty simple. Just make sure that you check these two things off BEFORE your interview date!

  • 21 March 2017 – Presentation and Interview

Before you have your interview, you must attend a presentation. This presentation is simply to give you all the information you need, plus you get the chance to win something free! It is a long while to wait between scheduling your interview and your actual interview but this gives you time to prepare, just try not to over prepare. If you want me to write a list of different question you can expect, let me know in the comments! During the presentation, they will tell you when you can expect to hear back, usually it takes a while as they have to fly back to Florida first!

  • 12 April 2017 – Receiving the ‘Congratulations’ email and what to do

The wait between the interview and finally receiving the email felt like the longest wait ever! We were told that we were to find out on the week of April 9th and lo and behold Wednesday morning, I woke up to the email. It’s hard to explain how it felt finally looking at your emails and seeing the email, after waiting for so long it was suddenly right there in front of me. In the email, it says you have 14 days to accept the offer. But of course, I couldn’t wait. So that night I accepted my offer, waited for the email that links me to the payment page. It says the acceptance fee is approx. $350USD which came out to be $522NZD. This acceptance fee goes towards securing your place and two weeks’ worth of rent in the housing. After you finalise your payment, you will then receive and email with your check-in time! You will also be wanting to make an account of DORMS, again you will get and email about this.

And from there on, it’s a lot of payments, waiting and preparation.

A couple of months before your check in date, you will be send the application for your visa. I still have a few months before I head off so I will keep you updated with what’s going on!
