Stand alone movies are always good at any time, but watching 3+ in a row? Even better! the good thing about movie marathons is that you can do it all by yourself on a rainy day, or invite people over and have a movie watching party. Just so long as someone brings the snacks!
I personally love having movie marathons, so I thought I would list a few of my favourites for you to watch at home!
If you’re planning on having a Harry Potter marathon, my personal favourite, you best make sure you have enough time! Let’s have a look at how long it would take to complete it.
Philosopher’s Stone – 2 hours 32 minutes
Chamber of Secrets – 2 hours 41 minutes
Prisoner of Azkaban – 2 hours 22 minutes
Goblet of Fire – 2 hours 37 minutes
Order of the Phoenix – 2 hours 18 minutes
Half Blood Prince – 2 hours 33 minutes
Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 – 2 hours 26 minutes
Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 – 2 hours 10 minutes
Taking a look at the length of these films, the total time comes to about 19 hours and 39 minutes. Can it be done is the entirety of a day? Yes, just make you breaks short and sweet!
Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit
There are two separate J.R.R. Tolkien trilogies that can technically be watched as one. Obviously there is the LOTR films, but now we can add on the three films from The Hobbit trilogy. With six films in total, let’s take a look at them all!
An Unexpected Journey – 2 hours 49 minutes
Desolation of Smaug – 2 hours 41 minutes
Battle of Five Armies – 2 hours 24 minutes
Fellowship of the Ring – 2 hours 58 minutes
Two Towers – 2 hours 59 minutes
Return of the King – 3 hours 21 minutes
These six films equates to about 17 hours and 12 minutes of watching time! So this marathon can definitely be done in an entire day, just make sure you start early enough to reach the end successfully.
I couldn’t make a post about movie marathons and not include Star Wars, which in my opinion is the most epic one you can do! As of now, there are already 8 films as part of this franchise but more are still to be released, meaning, the marathon will continue to grow! Here’s all 8 films so far, in chronological order:
The Phantom Menace – 2 hours 16 minutes
Attack of the Clones – 2 hours 22 minutes
Revenge of the Sith – 2 hours 20 minutes
Rogue One – 2 hours 13 minutes
A New Hope – 2 hours 1 minute
Empire Strikes Back – 2 hours 4 minutes
Return of the Jedi – 2 hours 11 minutes
The Force Awakens – 2 hours 16 minutes
From just these 8 films, you will be sitting down for a solid 17 hours and 43 minutes before you reach the end! Although, after the release of The Last Jedi, the untitled Han Solo film and more, the list will only get longer.
So those were just a few of my favourite movie marathons to do and I encourage you to give them a go also! Before I end this post, I would just like to list a few worthy mentions; The Dark Knight Trilogy, Star Trek, Pirates of the Caribbean, James Bond. Mission Impossible, Jurassic Park and basically any from the Marvel franchise!
Let me know in the comments what your favourite movie marathon is!
